China has warned that Taiwan's bid for independence could mean an open war.

The threat comes just days after China stepped up its military activities and warplane flights near Taiwan.

This development has taken place in the United States since Biden took over the presidency and continued to support Taiwan and clarify US policy in Asia.

The United States has described China's latest threat as "unfortunate" and said tensions should not escalate into a confrontation.

China considers Taiwan its share, but Taiwan claims to be an independent state.

Defending military activity near Taiwan, the Defense Ministry spokesman said the measures were necessary given the security situation in the region to ensure national security and sovereignty.

China and Taiwan: The main problem

China and Taiwan have had separate governments since the 1949 civil war in China. China has always sought to minimize Taiwan's role in the international arena, and the two governments have sought to increase their influence in the Pacific.

China considers Taiwan a separate province

Tensions between the two governments have risen in recent years. China has never ruled out using force to establish its sovereignty over the island.

Taiwan is recognized by only a few countries in the world, but it has deep trade and informal relations with many countries of a democratically established government.

Like many other countries, the United States does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but under

a law it can provide military assistance to Taiwan for its own defense.

The United States responded to China's threat of war on Thursday evening.

"We think this threat is very unfortunate," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told reporters. This is the first statement made by the new US administration on China and Taiwan since Biden took office.

Kirby added that the Pentagon believes there is a reason for the escalation of tensions over Taiwan.

In the face of deteriorating Sino-US relations, Biden's administration in the United States is expected to keep up pressure on China over disputes such as human rights, trade wars, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Chinese officials have always refrained from talking about war and insisted that their country is very peaceful.

China has never been an expansionist country and has not carried out any military adventures, especially beyond its borders. But the case of Taiwan is different and came into being as a result of the civil war, separated from China.

Under Xi Jinping's administration, China has repeatedly stated that it will not refrain from using force to thwart any attempt by Taiwan to gain independence.

The threat of war is different from military intervention. It is not in hidden words, but in a very open and terrifying way. Military intervention can be carried out in a number of ways and does not necessarily mean open war between the parties and their allies.

But Taiwan's status is a last resort for China because it considers it its share and an internal affair like Hong Kong's.
